Changes in the e-mail service

Due to repeated misuse of e-mail accounts by spammers, we have to introduce changes with regard to e-mail dispatch.

We have to introduce changes to the e-mail service, as e-mail accounts have been repeatedly misused for sending spam after being hijacked through phishing.

Starting October 5, 2012, the mail server will check each outgoing e-mail (mail.physik.uni-muenchen.de) whether you are authorized to use the sender address.

This means you can only use e-mail addresses of this form:

  • Username@physik.uni-muenchen.de
  • Username@physik.lmu.de
  • Username@campus.lmu.de (for students)
  • Username@lmu.de (for employees)
  • as well as mail aliases that have been registered for especially for you (special cases and older accounts)

For webmail, similar restrictions have been in effect for some time. For technical reasons, only the form Username@physik.uni-muenchen.de can be used with webmail.

On no account will you be able to use sender addresses of other domains (e.g. gmx, etc.).
